Miss Effie Stewart, a soprano soloist at St. Patrick's Cathedral of New York City, recorded this vocal selection in West Orange on February 25, 1889. Edison technician Theo Wangemann accompanies Stewart on the piano. Stewart's recordings for Edison are among the earliest efforts to record "serious" vocal music.

Soprano mystery..
Although I'm not too sure if this was meant to be some sort of parody or not, (the way this is introduced seems to be meant as an intro to something strange, as the announcer coughs and stumbles). Anyways, the soprano here is a bit overdramatic and off a little bit, but you know what, it's certainly not the worst thing you'll hear on here, not by a long shot. The song itself seems to pattern itself on 'Lullaby and good night" I think... Hmmm
